YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. Launches Brand Awareness Campaign published January 25, 2016

Today, January, 25, 2016, YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. (YWCA-GCR), alongside YWCA USA, and more than 220 other YWCAs around the country, launched a brand awareness campaign, meant to reintroduce YWCA, share its life-changing work, and invite people to join us on our mission to empower women and eliminate racism.

As one of the area’s largest providers of supportive housing to both homeless single women and women with children, building and maintaining community awareness and respect is an integral part of our success. We look forward to rolling out exciting, dynamic, new print materials throughout 2016,” says Malissa Pilette-McClenon, YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc.’s Director of Development and Marketing.

YWCA Is On A Mission

For over 150 years, YWCA has been at the forefront of the most critical social movements — from voting rights and civil rights, to affordable housing and pay equity, to violence prevention and health care reform. But despite important work being done on the ground by more than 220 local associations across the country, not enough people understood the size, impact, or relevance of YWCA.

Today, YWCA is one of the top 25 largest charities in the U.S., according to NonProfit Times, with total revenues of more than $775 million. YWCA helps more than 2 million women and children each year in the U.S., and worldwide, YWCA serves 25 million women and girls in 120 countries.

At YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc., we:

  • Provide 76 permanent single room occupancy (SRO) units to a diverse group of homeless single women. Residents have access to all of the services and programs provided by the YWCA-GCR, as well as case management provided by our Housing Coordinators.
  • Women in Transition Program (WIT), provides 14 units of transitional housing for both homeless single women and women with children, 9 of which are designed to accommodate families. WIT is a more structured and temporary program with an up to 2 years stay. Given the program’s success, on average the single women and women with children move into permanent housing in the community within 6 months.
  • Apartment Program provides 10 families in scattered site apartments in Rensselaer County with a rental subsidy as well as case management, support and advocacy.
  • By providing transitional and permanent housing combined with 360° of Support—a range of services customized to meet each woman’s individual needs; the YWCA-GCR empowers women to achieve their goals and become self-sufficient.
  • Our supportive services are available to and utilized by community members through My Sister’s Closet, Jamison-Rounds Ready for Work “Employment Training” Program, Jamison-Rounds Ready for School Program, our Food Pantry and Weekly Community Meal. In addition, we provide Homeless Prevention and case management services to Rensselaer County residents facing eviction

But there are still unmet needs. With this brand awareness campaign, we invite the public to join us on a mission, and help even more women, children, and families.
